The heartache in Texas is profound. Across our beloved state, communities grapple with the devastating aftermath of the July 2025 floods. Our thoughts, first and foremost, rest with the victims and their families. We feel the immensity of their loss, the agony of those still searching, and the quiet desperation of displaced residents. Moffitt Services stands with you, our Texas family, in this incredibly somber time.
Kerr County bears the heaviest burden. The confirmed death toll there, a staggering 103, leaves us breathless with grief. We also mourn the 25 souls lost in other Central Texas counties, including Travis, Kendall, Burnet, Williamson, and Tom Green. Each number represents a life cut tragically short, a family shattered, a void that can never be filled. The news that 27 campers and counselors from the nearly century-old Camp Mystic are among the dead twists the knife of sorrow even deeper. These were children, young adults, enjoying summer, swept away in an instant. The enormity of this tragedy is almost incomprehensible.
The search continues for an estimated 166 people still missing across the region. Law enforcement, fire departments, and countless volunteers tirelessly comb the ravaged landscape. Over 2,100 emergency responders from ten states have descended upon Kerr County, a testament to the sheer scale of the disaster and the indomitable spirit of human compassion. Yet, the very beauty of the Texas Hill Country—its rugged terrain, its winding rivers, its rocky embrace—now hinders these vital efforts. The floods transformed serene landscapes into a chaotic mess of splintered trees, broken buildings, and mangled cars, slowing every step of the search and recovery.
We understand the scientific explanations—the Balcones Escarpment, the flash flood alley, the sudden 35-foot rise of the Guadalupe River in Kerrville on July 4th. These facts explain the mechanics of the disaster, but they cannot soften the raw pain of its impact. What we see is the devastation, the lost lives, the shattered dreams.
Partnering with The Hunt Store
In this time of immense need, Moffitt Services has acted. We committed $50,000 worth of fuel to the Hunt Store in Hunt, Texas, knowing it is precisely where it can do the most good. This is not a donation to a faceless entity; it is a direct lifeline to a community fighting for its very survival.
The Hunt Store, a steadfast pillar of West Kerr County for generations, has once again risen to meet an unprecedented challenge. This historic establishment, tracing its roots back to the Japonica settlement of the 1800s, stands as more than just a store. It embodies the spirit of resilience that defines this region.
From the early pioneers who battled outlaws and and protected against Indian raids, to Michael Short, the Battle of San Jacinto veteran whose land formed the store’s foundation, the Hunt Store has always been at the heart of the community. Robert Finley Hunt, who purchased the land in 1911, cemented its place as the hub of local life.
Today, the Hunt Store acts as the central command for relief efforts. Our fuel directly powers the search and rescue operations, allowing Texas EquuSearch to continue their critical mission of finding the missing. It fuels generators, bringing light and power to displaced residents, offering a flicker of normalcy in the darkness. It supports housing resources, providing shelter to those who lost everything. The Hunt Store remains a vital meeting point, a drop-off location for aid, and a source for essential groceries, cold beverages, and personal care items. It truly is the community’s lifeline.
