The first annual Moffitt Companies Charity Golf Tournament was a resounding success! The event, held October 28, 2024 at Houston National Golf Course located in Northwest Houston, raised an incredible $50,000 for Texas EquuSearch. This heartwarming achievement was made possible through the collective effort of team registrations, generous business sponsorships, and engaging fundraising activities. The tournament featured a silent auction, a raffle, a live auction, and on-course games like “Beat the Pro” and a cannon launcher challenge. What a fun way to give back to the community!
“Fore” the Love of Community: Texas EquuSearch’s Impactful Mission
Born from immense tragedy, Texas EquuSearch stands as a beacon of hope and community involvement. After the heartbreaking loss of his daughter Laura, Tim Miller channeled his grief into creating this incredible organization. In fact, Texas EquuSearch has become a lifeline for families facing the unimaginable pain of a missing loved one since the year 2000. Moreover, this non-profit organization provides invaluable search and recovery services completely free of charge. From humble beginnings with horse-mounted searches, they now utilize advanced technology like sonar, radar, and drones. Indeed, Tim Miller and his dedicated team of volunteers embody the true meaning of community involvement, offering priceless support to those in need.
A Decade’s Old Partnership
The relationship between Moffitt Companies and Texas EquuSearch began over 20 years ago. It’s a bond built on a deep, personal friendship between Texas EquuSearch founder, Tim Miller, and Moffitt Companies owner, Roy Moffitt.
Moffitt Companies proudly supports Texas EquuSearch by providing essential resources during search efforts. Moreover, they offer these resources free of charge! These resources include portable toilets, roll-off containers, and diesel fuel. This ongoing commitment to community involvement will continue annually through the charity golf tournament, which Moffitt plans to make an October tradition.
Golf Tournament Numbers Show Commitment to Community
The energy at the Moffitt Companies Charity Golf Tournament was palpable. With 36 teams registered, the greens of Houston National were abuzz with excitement. Each swing and putt was driven by a shared passion for community involvement and a desire to support the vital work of Texas EquuSearch. This incredible turnout demonstrated the collective commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by missing loved ones.
Of course, this success wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of the tournament’s sponsors. Moffitt Companies extends its deepest gratitude to all those who contributed, especially Presenting Sponsors Veratex Propane and Choctaw Construction Services (CCS). Their partnership played a crucial role in making this event a resounding success. The strong support from both participants and sponsors alike highlights the power of community involvement and its ability to create positive change.
The Moffitt Golf Tournament Team
The Moffitt team certainly turned heads with their custom-designed “Jack Golf Apparel” shirts. Furthermore, these shirts featured icons of the company logo, making it easy to spot the Moffitt crew on the course. The Moffitt team thoughtfully planned every detail to represent Moffitt Services with pride.
Special Highlights and Heartfelt Gestures
Montana Silversmiths generously donated custom Texas EquuSearch wallet cases. One was gifted to founder Tim Miller, and the other was raffled off, with participants eagerly purchasing tickets for a chance to win.
One of the most heartfelt moments of the day was the gifting of a handmade quilt to Tim Miller. The quilt features one of Moffitt’s bobtail fuel trucks alongside an image of Laura Miller and the Texas EquuSearch crest logo. As Tim often says, “If it wasn’t for Laura, I never would have started or continued Texas EquuSearch.” This special Moffitt bobtail truck carries Laura’s face and the Texas EquuSearch crest, raising awareness as it delivers fuel across the state. This gift truly touched everyone’s hearts.
A Moment of Gratitude
A truly touching moment unfolded at the tournament. Tim Miller was surprised by the family of Kemah Police Chief Chris Reed, a man whose life was tragically cut short in a boating accident in 2019. Texas EquuSearch played a crucial role in bringing closure to the Reed family by assisting in the search and recovery efforts. The reunion between Tim and the Reed family was a powerful reminder of the importance of Texas EquuSearch’s mission. It underscored how community involvement can provide solace and healing during times of immense grief. This emotional encounter was impactful for everyone present and served as a testament to the enduring legacy of compassion and support fostered by Texas EquuSearch.

A Photo Backdrop to Remember
Of course, Moffitt Companies couldn’t have hosted such a successful event without their wonderful sponsors. The photo backdrop, adorned with the logos of the presenting sponsors Veratex Propane and CCS, was a highlight for participants. It was a great way to capture memories of this amazing day of comradery.
Community Involvement at its Finest
The Moffitt Companies Charity Golf Tournament is a testament to the power of community involvement. Through the combined efforts of sponsors, participants, and volunteers, the event raised a significant amount of money for a worthy cause.
