The devastating July 4th floods in Kerrville put the spirit of Texas to the ultimate test. But in the months since, the community has shown remarkable strength and resilience. Moffitt Services and the Moffitt Legacy Foundation have been there every step of the way, helping with the long road to recovery.
Fueling a Community’s Recovery
Shortly after the disaster, members of the Moffitt Services and Moffitt Legacy Foundation team, including Rusty Moffitt, Landri St. Clair, Fred Whitfield, and Greg Breaux, traveled to Kerr County. They met with the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, which awarded the Moffitt Legacy Foundation a significant $60,000 grant. This grant was a pivotal step, allowing the foundation to provide free fuel to residents and first responders, including search and rescue teams. The team witnessed the raw devastation firsthand—shattered homes and the muddy marks of an unforgiving river. However, they also saw the unwavering resilience of the community. As one team member noted, their efforts were about “individuals helping individuals.”
Key Partnerships in the Aftermath
One of the key partnerships in the recovery effort was with Texas EquuSearch. Moffitt Legacy Foundation provided fuel cubes to the search and rescue organization’s base camp. This fuel was critical for operating their equipment, such as skid steers used to clear debris to find missing people, and their ATVs and four-wheelers. Founded by the tireless Tim Miller, Texas EquuSearch is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The organization has never charged a family for its search efforts, relying on public support. The group held a gala on October 3 to raise funds to continue their crucial mission. More details on their anniversary gala are available here: Lost is Not Alone: 25 Years of Texas EquuSearch.
The team also met Haley Lehrman, owner of The Hunt Store. Her gas station, the only one for miles, became a vital hub. Moffitt Services and the Moffitt Legacy Foundation provided fuel and equipment, allowing her to keep the station functional. Haley transformed her business into a true lifeline, offering thousands of meals and countless resources to those in desperate need. “It’s just insane what happened. It’s really devastating,” Haley said, describing how the river rose 37 feet in about half an hour. Driver Dano, a vital part of the Moffitt team and stationed at The Hunt Store for the event, also highlighted the impact of their donated fuel in this video: Video of Driver Dano.
Community-Wide Support
Austin Dickson, CEO of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, presented the $60,000 grant, which empowered the Moffitt Legacy Foundation to continue its role as the primary fuel hub at The Hunt Store. One team member highlighted the importance of the grant and continuing the support efforts, expressing that many in the community were being stretched thin financially from funding their own community relief efforts. The Community Foundation, which has been fostering a thriving Hill Country since 1981, has been working tirelessly to inspire giving and steward charitable resources. The Foundation, which started with a $5,000 gift from Mrs. Alma Dietert, now manages over $55 million in assets, benefiting communities across 10 counties in the region. The Moffitt Legacy Foundation also received additional support from generous donors who contributed directly through its website.
The support for those affected by the floods went beyond direct donations. The “Band Together Texas” concert was a star-studded benefit event held on August 17, 2025, at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, to support flood survivors in the Texas Hill Country. The event, organized by Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum, successfully raised over $8.5 million for the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation. Notable attendees included Matthew McConaughey and Dennis Quaid, while performers featured major artists like Cody Johnson, Lyle Lovett, and Miranda Lambert herself.
In a show of support, Texas State Representative Wes Virdell also recognized Moffitt Services’ efforts, giving them a shout-out for their commitment to the community. You can see his message here: Representative Wes Virdell on Facebook.
Moffitt Services will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Kerrville and all affected Texans. Their commitment to fueling relief and helping communities rebuild remains as strong as ever.
